Other Drugs
The main culprits for teen substance use are nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, and prescriptions. Using just one of these drugs creates the risk of wanting to use bolder substances as a teen builds up their tolerance. Typically, these drugs are more easily accessible to youth than harder street drugs. As teen users consume these seemingly familiar drugs and experience their first feelings of intoxication, they may gain momentum to try more drugs. Since the part of the brain used for judgment, self-control, and decision-making is the last to mature, teens are more likely to act hastily, and on impulse just for the thrill-seeking they desire. To reduce youth that ever try hallucinogens, meth, cocaine, heroin, or other illicit drugs, CYA strives to educate and prevent teen use of alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, and misused prescriptions. If you are a teen or parent of a teen needing help with substance use, please get in touch with our SPaRC Team for a free, non-judgemental screening to connect you to needed resources.
