Tutoring
It’s widely known that tutoring can be hugely beneficial for students of all ages across a wide range of subjects. From literacy and numeracy to test preparation and essay-writing skills, tutoring can help develop the competencies students need to thrive at school, college, and beyond.
Art
Art inspires teens to excel in and out of the classroom. It helps students stay in school, increases motivation, improves attitudes and attendance, and improves academic performance. According to Americans for the Arts, a student involved in the arts is: 4x more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
Music
Music, either through listening or creating, fosters healing with stress relief and self-soothing to emotion regulation and physiological benefits; music plays an influential role in mental health and well-being for many people. Music often takes on an even greater significance for teens—it can contribute to identity formation.
Fitness
With the explosion of smartphones, teens have learned to swiftly scroll and type away using only their thumbs. But the rest of their bodies are woefully inactive – and the effects are far-reaching.
S.T.E.M.
STEM education provides teens with the skills necessary to succeed in fields beyond science, technology, engineering, and math. Exposing teens to these areas is essential to expand their interests and prepare them to succeed. The LIV Center STEM Room Coaches are skilled volunteer volunteers who know the long-term value of sparking STEM education in this area. Just a fraction of the STEM room projects include:
- Laser Cutting
- Poster Printing
- 3D Printing
- T-shirt Sublimation
- Video Game Design
- 3D Scanning
- Lego League
- Wazer Waterjet Designs
- Embroidery Projects
Support Groups
Participating in a LIV Teen Center support group allows you to be with people who are likely to have a common purpose and likely to understand one another. The benefits of participating in a support group may include feeling less lonely, isolated, or judged and reducing distress, depression, anxiety, or fatigue. Current LIV Center groups include:
- BASE – Teen Empowerment Training
- Bright Lights – LGBTQ+ and Allies
- LifeSkills – Substance Use Prevention
Adulting 101
“I don’t know how to adult.” Today’s young people often state this remark. It takes no time for children to grow into teenagers and then adults and have a personality and life of their own. The LIV Center wants them ready to live life on their own. We teach teens essential adulting skills to help them survive life’s challenges. Just a couple of the vital skills include
- Money and budgeting
- Cooking
- Dress and clothing skills
- Hygiene and grooming habits
- Healthcare and first aid
- Social skills and manners
- Organization
- House management
- Auto ownership & maintenance
